Vinod Khosla predicts AI doctors could be here sooner than you think

๐—ง๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ธ๐™๐˜ผ๐™Ž๐™. At the recent STAT Breakthrough Summit, Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla predicted that โ€œWithin 5 to 6 years, the FDA will approve a primary care app qualified to practice medicine like your primary care physician.โ€

โ€œQualifiedโ€ is an interesting qualifier in this context. ๐Ÿ˜Š

This raises a question from ThinkGenโ€™s perspective: Is the practice of medicine an art or a science?

We at ThinkGen have worked on projects where weโ€™ve asked doctors this exact question. Some physicians note that itโ€™s both: โ€œOtherwise a computer would be treating patients.โ€

And some physicians note that when the data clearly supports one intervention, then itโ€™s a science: โ€œArt tends to factor in when there are multiple choices.โ€

This raises another question: How often does the data support only one intervention?

We at ThinkGen love to ask questions โ€“ and weโ€™d love to hear what questions you have about AI and healthcare. Please post in our comments below.
