Following adcomm meeting, FDA aims to ‘simplify’ vaccination with tweaks to long-term COVID-19 strategy

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝙁𝘼𝙎𝙏. Remember when the “nightly news” consisted largely of advice about COVID-19?  When the vaccines were rolled out, advice on who/how/when to get inoculated became paramount.

But now in February of 2023 it has become strangely silent!  Silent to the point where even people who consider themselves to be medically sophisticated aren’t sure about their vaccine plans for the future.  The “who” part has become relatively clear, but “what” and “when” are still up for grabs.

The FDA has declared that it is going to be simplifying the vaccine recommendations it communicates to the public now that we know that Biden’s declaration that the pandemic was over was a tad premature.  The old communications focus was understandably aimed at trying to deal with the acute emergency. The new focus is for the “long term” management of COVID that has obviously become necessary in the pandemic-moves-to-endemic era.
