The US Just Greenlit High-Tech Alternatives to Animal Testing

π—§π—΅π—Άπ—»π—Έπ™π˜Όπ™Žπ™. As you will read in the attached URL, real progress is being made in the direction of substituting tissue and computer models for animal testing in drug development. Important for two reasons. First, as we leave such prosaic areas of drug development as antihypertensives and antiarthritics and move in the direction of more β€œspecialty” drugs, we find fewer and fewer animal models that can do a satisfactory job of replicating humans closely enough to provide good estimates for such important parameters as safety. Second, but only slightly, this new direction helps the pharmaceutical industry to avoid unfortunate charges of animal cruelty resulting from the testing of drugs that often have significant side effects and in the vast majority of cases do not make it to market.

Though this may seem like a small step forward, it is actually a lot more than that! Check it out at: https://bit.ly/3GZbRJe
